New 2023 Toyota 4Runner Diesel, Changes, Rumors – Honesty is the best policy. In the world of SUVs, honesty is the best policy. As a result, Toyota 4Runner is not moving to a unibody body structure. Instead, it keeps its traditional, body-on-frame design, solid rear axle, and manual transfer case (at most in the Trail and TRD Pro versions).
2023 Toyota 4Runner has existed since the dawn of the world, or at least Toyota’s arrival in the USA back in 1980. Then, it was derived from Toyota’s pickup truck range, now known as the Tacoma. Today, the 4Runner continues to carry on the tradition of Tacoma’s last-generation model.
2023 Toyota 4Runner Redesign
Exterior Design
Look at that mug. It seems like it is ready to devour children, cattle, and even rocks with a sinister squint in her eyes. Its flanks rise high above the ground as if its loins have been girded. The 4Runner is ready to work or play hardcore. It has an exposed trailer hitch, frame rails, and tow hooks. This isn’t your grandma’s crossover.
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner looks aren’t that old. It’s true. The 4Runner’s 2023 model year saw a slight refresh inside and outside, giving it a more aggressive and less rounded look. As a result, the modern 4Runner looks a lot more square than the 2002-2009 model. The fifth-generation 4Runner was introduced in 2010. However, the powertrain has not changed except for the 4.7-liter V-8.

Although the 2023 4Runner had a prominent grille, it was more traditional and did not have side vents underneath the headlights. The 2015 design is still fresh. My 4Runner Trail Edition included frame-mounted tow hooks under the bumper, thick skid plates that covered important driveline components, as well as high-profile tires. The tow hooks could have been more extensive and more accessible. I also wish that the OEM tires were more aggressive. This is the Trail Edition.
Interior Design
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner interior received a mid-cycle refresh in 2023. Although the dashboard is identical, it has been updated with a new gauge cluster and a redesigned passenger section. The center stack and accent pieces are also made of glossy black plastic. Although it looks more mature than the dash of 2010-2013, it still maintains a youthful and purposeful appearance.

The controls are well placed and easy to reach. It is easy to use infotainment systems. The software is Toyota’s familiar Entune. It is easy to use the HVAC controls. The fan speed, temperature, and direction are controlled by three large knobs. Dual-zone temperature control is absent here, but it is available on the Limited model. Dual-zone would be nice at this price point.
2023 Toyota 4Runner Engine
Despite the cosmetic changes, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner will continue to use the same but older, 4.0-liter V-6. We’re talking honesty here. The 4Runner’s V-6 engine is modern, and it does the job without fuss or commotion. The most recent features of the 4Runner’s V-6 are its dual overhead cams with variable valve timing. It produces 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque.

It’s not bad considering the likely successor, the 2016 Tacoma’s 3.5-liter V-6. This V-6 produces 42 horsepower less and has dual combustion cycles, port, and direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, and variable valve timing. The 4.0-liter produces 13 more horsepower. Toyota also aims to increase fuel economy with its new 3.5-liter.
2023 Toyota 4Runner Release Date And Price
Toyota still charges a lot for the SUV, even though the Toyota 4Runner 2023 is an old-school design. A 2015 4Runner starts at $33,210. The price of the Trail Edition increases to $38,665. Then there are the options. My tester included the sliding rear cargo deck ($350), KDSS suspension ($1,750), roof rack crossbars ($185), paint protection ($395), remote engine start ($499) and four-season floor mats ($325). Toyota offers a $750 30th anniversary discount on the 2015 model year. The price of the 2015 model year is still $42,294.
